Is Heaven the goal or the reward?
Perhaps our goal should be supreme happiness (beatitude) in this life.
(I added this thought July 10 ‘23, in light of today’s first reading (Oct 15 ‘25) it seems like heaven is the goal (and ”supreme happiness” is a metric by which you can tell if you will achieve that goal) and your actions (that is works) are what determines your reward. But then there’s the question that I wrestle with daily. If I achieve the goal that is heaven, why do I care what my reward is? Dunno, perhaps it lies in that our works on earth are what give us supreme happiness.)
